STEP OUTSIDE

One of the pleasures of staying at The Old Bank House is how much of Avenel can be enjoyed without getting in the car.

Directly across Bank Street is the highly regarded Bank Street Wood Fired Pizza & Garden, housed in Avenel’s former Commercial Bank of Australia. Just a few doors away is Papilio House, while The Rabbit Hole Inn at Harvest Home is an easy stroll.

Walk a little further and discover Hughes Creek, the magnificent 1859 sandstone bridge, Avenel’s heritage trail and places connected with the childhood of Ned Kelly.

Fowles Wine, local wineries and the wider Nagambie Lakes and Strathbogie region are within easy reach.

Stay somewhere with a story.

STAY

Built in 1873 as Avenel’s Bank of Victoria and the residence of its bank manager, The Old Bank House offers a country stay with more than 150 years of history behind its doors.

Come for a weekend, slow down, light the fire, wander through the garden and discover a little of Avenel.

This is not simply somewhere to sleep. It is a chance to stay within one of the town’s remarkable old buildings and become, for a little while, part of its continuing story.

THE HISTORIC RESIDENCE

The heritage residence accommodates up to four guests in two individually styled queen bedrooms.

Guests have exclusive use of the historic portion of the house, with two separate living spaces, two bathrooms and a private entrance.

The cosy sitting room has a television and fireplace, while the formal parlour offers a second fireplace and a beautiful place to read, talk, enjoy a glass of local wine or simply settle in for the evening.

Outside, guests have their own private front garden and fire pit and are welcome to wander through the broader established gardens, with mature trees, old fruit trees and vines.

At the rear of the property, a garden gate leads directly to Avenel Golf Club.

Two e-bikes are also available by prior arrangement for guests who would like to explore Avenel and the surrounding countryside.
